Camp Tontozona
Race Headquarters

Update: Cabins at Zane are full. The only thing left is dorm housing.

Camp Tontozona (Camp T) will be the race headquarters for the 2008.  Pre race meeting on April 25 and post race activities will occur at Camp T.  Transportation to the start and from the finish will be from Camp T.

Camp T has been reserved for Check in on Friday April 25, 2008 and departure Sunday April 27, 2008.  I encourage you to stay an extra night, Saturday night, following the race.

Showers are available post race for those not planning on staying Saturday evening.

About Camp Tontozona
Camp Tontozona is a special getaway nestled in the Ponderosa pines of the Tonto National Forest two hours north of Phoenix, near Payson, Arizona. On April 25, 1951, the property was deeded to the Arizona Board of Regents and the State College of Arizona. The name "Camp Tontozona" was adopted in 1958. Tonto Creek runs alongside the football field, so the name combines Tonto with Arizona to make "Tontozona."

Rustic Setting
Still in its rustic state, Camp Tontozona is a peaceful place to relax, reflect, and regroup. With a philosophy that ties itself to the value of nature and what we can learn from all living creatures, it seems natural to hold retreats in natural surroundings more remote from the campuses, hotels, and conference centers that traditionally serve as gathering places. Here we can relax, retreat from the noise and business of the work place, and enjoy the company of fellow runners.

Directions to Camp Tontozona
To reach Camp Tontozona (see map), drive to Payson, Arizona. On the north side of Payson at the intersection of Highways 87 and 260, follow Highway 260 to Kohl's Ranch, approximately 17 miles northeast of Payson. When you reach Kohl's Ranch, check your odometer reading and proceed 1.1 miles to the Camp Tontozona turnoff. A Camp Tontozona sign marks the road into camp. It is a paved road located on your right as you come from Payson. Proceed down the road until you reach the cabins.

If someone doesn't greet you, the Caretaker's cabin will be near the bottom of the hill to your right.

Directions from Sky Harbor International Airport

From within Sky Harbor Airport, drive east on E Sky Harbor Blvd.  Continue east and merge onto the AZ-202 Loop East ramp toward Tempe.  Drive east on the Loop 202 for about 7 miles to the Country Club Road exit (the sign indicates Country Club Road, Hwy 87, and Payson).  Take the Country Club exit, then turn left (to the north) onto Country Club Road and continue north to the junction with Highway 87.  Turn right on Hwy 87 (to the east) and continue to Payson, which is about 70 miles from the turnoff.  At the north end of Payson, turn right onto Hwy 260 (there is a MacDonald’s on the southeast corner).  Follow Hwy 260 for approximately 17 miles to Kohl’s Ranch.  At 1.0 miles east of Kohl’s Ranch, there is a sign that marks the turnoff to Camp Tontozona.  Turn right onto the paved road and drive down to road until you reach the cabins.
